There’s something amusing…

There’s something very amusing about a small vampire who sneaks up on you (loudly), snarls and then has to take his teeth out to speak.

Kris and I were in fits of goggles yesterday at Dino. He was completely incomprehensible with the teeth in and kept having to take them out to say anything, eat or drink. It was hilarious but you probably had to be there.

Education and Changing lives

Some reading, some number bonding up to 5 and then baking biscuits. Lots of lego and imaginative play with playmobil thrown in. Very little telly. Biccies are Gorgeous! About to sit Dino down and start a Nature Watch type diary. It’ll be a kind of every few days observations of what is going on in the garden. He can record weather, birds on the feeders (umm, when we fill them up again) what’s growing, what’s not etc. Today he wants to write - "It’s raining. Yuck!" I reckon that’ll do, it’s an accurate description of what is outside the window.

I’ve been reconfiguring the pc - increasing virtual memory. It was interesting finding out how and the PC seems better for it.

Oh and while browsing the (junk) mail arrived. I’ve been sent the Oxfam Unwrapped catalogue and this caught my eye. Actually I love the whole idea of the Unwrapped thing. I need or want very little for christmas and birthdays and the kids want way more than they need. My parents yet again have no idea what they want. Perfect solution really. Hee Hee, I could get someone some poo, umm, fertiliser, I meant fertiliser…….

Welcome to the New Bonkers Blog

I was getting more and more fed up with Blogger so I’ve switched to blogsome. The old blog is linked on the right here but I won’t be posting there any more. Umm, unless I get naffed off with blogsome. *grin*

Anyway, I’m here now, please update any bookmarked or fav links accordingly - Ta muchly.

Bath

A little while ago I noticed the seal had split on the bath. Well, ok it was months really but I only got round to phoning the council last week to see if they could fix it - this being a council house!

Anyway, 2 blokes turned up today to take a look. It took them 90 minutes. There was drilling, banging and crashing about in my bathroom. Didn’t sound like a squirt of silicon to me.

It wasn’t.

The bath was loose and wobbly. They refixed the bath - raising it a bit in the process. Then they resealed it and refixed the panels. The bathroom now needs cleaning and sorting out but it’s fixed.

Same old, same old

It’s becoming routine now, which is nice. We sort of mooch about for the morning with a bit of telly, some playmobil or lego - whatever takes their fancy really. Then after lunch we sit at the table and do "Education" First is always reading, 4 pages in his current book. Then it’s pen work - something that involves fine motor skills, writing, mazes, drawing, something like that. Last we do something manipulative - play dough is popular, as is baking. We also get out the attribute blocks and cuisenairre rods regularly. Dino has requested the weaving loom tomorrow so I must find it.

Today was different. They kids got out the glue and some boxes from the recycling pile and made a monster and a house for it. Then they attacked it with paint. All self motivated and with very little intervention or assistance from me. Before lunch too! But I still made them both sit down adn do stuff after lunch too. Reading first - Dino’s on bk 6 of the Ladybird books and still progressing well. Mimi is trying to work out her letter sounds, she’s getting there but slowly. Then Dino dragged out an old half finished work book and wanted to do that. It needed a pencil, some colouring and a bit of reading of instructions so I was happy. He did 6 pages! Yes! 6! Voluntarily. He refused to stop when I said he could. Mimi sat and coloured in her book while he did the workbook.

I’m impressed. I still get the anger and fuss but we get things done. The house is tidier than it’s ever been and I’m contemplating more decorating in the not too distant future. Upstairs needs it, desperately needs it. I cook from scratch and we’re growing more of our own veg every year. Downshifting and being at home more is working for us.
