Leonids Meteor Shower.

Copied from where I found it…..

The Leonid Meteor Shower, what some people would call shooting stars, is now in its peak time. The next few nights, providing we have clear skies, will be a good chance to see some meteors. They will be emanating from near the constellation of Leo, hence the name. For those of you that don’t know where that is, look towards the east. It has been cloudy in recent nights here in Dublin. If the skies are clear where you are, keep an eye out. You’ll have a better chance of seeing some if you are in a less built up area, but even in the suburbs of cities, like where I am, you will see some if you are lucky. I often have.

There are a number of meteor showers during the year, always coming at the same time of the year. As we orbit the Sun, we pass through the same region of space annually. Where we currently are is where the debris from comet Tempel-Tuttle is located. It is the dust from that which causes the meteors. It only takes a speck of dust, burning up in the atmosphere to cause one.

Some years are better than others. We may pass through a more dusty part of the debris for example. Also the phase of the moon is important. A full moon creates its own light pollution, but currently it is not a factor. So, given cloud-free skies, something hard to guarantee in November, there is a good chance of seeing some this year. So keep your eyes open each night for a few nights to come.

I’ll be looking if it’s clear enough tonight.

Life

Yunno, it just sort of carries on doesn’t it. Want a quick update?

Kids seem to still be enjoying the workbooks approach and I’m on a house sorting kick. Well, I was til I pulled a muscle in my neck and that bloody hurt for a day or two. So the house sorting thing has slowed down. Today Dino sat and did taking away sums using the small white cubes from his cuisenairre rods. Oh, and pencils, his fingers and anything else he could see. He took ages and there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth. But he did 2 pages. Mimi likes to sit and work too so she has a basic activity book that she’s working on. It’s very basic pen/cil control stuff and colouring but she loves it.

That happens most days now, sitting down at the table and doing "work" If we can manage to get that done straight after breakfast then the rest of the day is free for other stuff. Dino’s spending a fair bit of time here. He has an animal park set up on the Roar bit. But he navigates here better as he doesn’t have the reading confidence or speed to cope with CBBC really. So I’ve lost some puter time. It’s not a bad thing.

Nano is going well. I’m about a day ahead of schedule.
