Decorating

I’ve done carpet in Mimi’s bedroom, and painted out the blue she said she didn’t like - that’s 3 walls and the ceiling. She wants Barbie pink. I’ve done a sort of patchy undercoat in left over magnolia. We’re "discussing" what the actual colour will be. Dino is happy with the green he has but he wants it like a jungle. I reckon we can compromise on both!

So, to continue the decorating theme - I redecorated the blog too, and the website

On the education front we got given a second leap pad so Dino’s has been dusted off and they are both in use. Mimi loves it. It means I can get Dino sat down on his own, just the 2 of us, while he does his basic work.  This means he actually gets on with it. First he reads a few pages in his reading book. Then it’s a couple of workbook pages or something similar to get the numbers and writing practiced. The other day he wrote a letter to his Granny and Grandad - which they love. His reading is slowly getting there but he is constantly torn between frustration that he "can’t" and delight that he can!

Both of them love to paint and both are loving the welcome return of Jackanory on both CBBC and Cbeebies.

At bedtime we’re reading The Magic Faraway Tree.  I loved it as a kid and they seem captivated too. In the bath tonight they were inventing their own lands for the top of the tree - I think I feel a mini project coming on!

We started work again.

We kicked off a day or so ago with getting Dino back into reading again. He can do more than he thinks. Mimi is fast catching him up though. She knows most of her letters and is desperately trying to read. She’s starting to work out writing too.

So, today we pulled out pots of change (mostly pennies) and played shops a bit. Dino is working out change and adding up purchases. He also wants to know what birds are which so we looked at bird names. They built a huge train track through the living room, kitchen and downstairs loo - until I chucked it out of the loo!

We’ll pick up the pace a bit in a week or so.

Amongst other things I have been laying down carpet on my stairs and landing. I have enough left over (I think) to do at least one of the kids rooms.  I also have a chunk of lino that might do the room edges in the living room and neaten it up a bit. It’s coming together nicely here.
