Stepping up the workload.

I’m clamping down on Dino. I feel he needs to step up the pace here a bit. His reading is taking off and his confidence is growing it’s the discipline needed to sit and record stuff that we’re working on. He does seem to do well with the routine of more "sitting down work" He reads a few pages in a book he chooses, then a couple of work book pages and after that he usually gets the microscope out. Yesterday and today we were looking at a bit of onion where he could see the cells "Like a brick wall or floorboards"

Mimi, on the other hand is rebelling and refuses to do anything.

Tutu

M got a soft toy ballerina from Granny today.

M - What’s that skirt thing?
Granny - It’s a tutu.
(M proceeds to count the layers!)
M- So that’s one tutu, two tutu, three tutu!

So, are they having a day off or skiving then?

In Tesco. The bloke was trying to tell us about something to do with the clubcard. Well, he would have done if that hadn’t been his opening line.

"So, are they having a day off or are they skiving?"

My response - "Neither and I find that remark offensive." I stomped off. I stewed all the way round while shopping, think Boudicca with chariot, my trolley may as well have had spikes on! We paid, with the obligatory trip to the loo, just because it’s there I think.

Then I had to pop to customer services and have a moan. They were as offended as me. The women on there know us, we get waved at, they like my kids. The lack of obvious school attendance has NEVER been questioned by Tesco staff. I think he’s going to get his arse kicked, and rightly so.

Got home, did reading with both, a bit of Nature project with Dino, some sticking with Mimi and generally plenty of good, wholesome education.

Bloody cheek.

Conversations with a 3 yr old.

Well, almost 4, or so she tells me!

(in the supermarket, just us, Dino was off out with a friend)

Mimi: What’s that white thing?

Me: What white thing?

Mimi: That one. (points) Looks like white broccoli.

Me: Ah, that’s cauliflower.

Mimi: Can we get one?

Me: Will you eat some?

Mimi: Yes! It’s pretty.

So we got a small one - she tried it. She has demanded cauli at every meal since. Wonder if I can convince her peas are pretty too?

It’s that time of year

Mimi is sweaty and soggy, very hot but complaining she’s cold. She’s coughing like her lungs want to turn inside out. Dino says his nose is blocked. I had this last week. I’m hoping their dose passes as fast as mine did, although the cough is lingering. But then coughs always do linger with me.

Mammoth

Dino is getting the Nat Geog kids magazine. He’s loving having regular post. The latest issue had a self assembly, glow in the dark, mammoth skeleton! Eek, cue much Mummy making stuff while Dino tells me I’m doing it wrong methinks.

But no! He got a tray, laid out all the bits and fitted them according to the instructions.

Fab, and he was well impressed with himself.

It was a tad cold this morning….
