RIP Rosie guinea pig.

Rosie, our young Abyssinian guinea pig with the sticky up fur was found dead in her hutch this morning. No idea how or why she died, no obvious illness or cause.

She’s been buried in the garden.

Copper.

This is Copper, the copper maran.

Copper posing on some concrete rocks - where Rainbow kept her for a good chunk of the morning before attacking her so I split them up again.

And Rainbow, just so she doesn’t feel left out, stroppy git.

School visit.

Today was the prelim visit to look around and ask questions and Dino was a bit overwhelmed by the scale of school - and this is a smaller one. but he managed to ask most of the questions he’s come up with over the past few days and we did arrange 2 half days and a full day tasters so it’s not totally alien in Sept. His first half day is next Weds for the afternoon and then he’s away for a week so the other sessions are when he’s back.

But overall he’s looking forward to it all and is impressed by what is on offer at school for him.

He also got to meet his teacher for next year and he says he likes her, so that’s a bonus.

Chickens.

Last weekend we rehomed Red - she had developed a problem with making shells and we couldn’t fix it, no matter what we tried, and we’d tried everything for a couple of months. Now, this can be an issue for rescued battery hens - so we contacted the rehomers and our local contact took her for us. So Red was delivered last Sat.

While I was out delivering Red, Groovy got out of the run and died before we could find her and get her back. So we were down to one chicken, Rainbow, our regular layer and scruffiest looking of the lot - happy and healthy in every other way, but now stressed and lonely.

We’ve just been to get her a friend. There will be pictures in the next few days as we let them meet each other and the new one gets a name. She’s a 16 week old Copper Maran - not quite at point of lay, probably a couple of months befroe we see eggs from her.

School visit.

I spoke to the head of the school this morning and there is a place for Dino from Sept and we’re going to have a look around on Tuesday. I’m hoping to arrange a taster day for him so it’s not a totally alien thing when he goes.

Giving up.

We’re phasing out home ed.

Starting with Dino starting school this coming Sept, assuming I can get him a place where I want and can sort any relevant paperwork. Then Mimi will go next year when she’d be starting juniors.

I’m not sure how much blogging there will be between now and then.

Sorry folks.

Is choice a thing of the past?

Badman’s recommendations.

to a large extent it will remove from parents the responsibility for how their children are educated. For many, without the freedom to learn autonomously, the very reason for home education will cease to exist.

Scary.
